Sports reporter Joey Segreti shares his thoughts on the final outlook of the College Football Playoff

This weekend in college football is championship weekend, the last weekend of games before bowl games and the College Football Playoff begin.

As of right now, the top four teams that would be making the CFP are the University of Georgia, University of Michigan, Texas Christian University and the University of Southern California. There are two teams outside the top four right now, Ohio State University and the University of Alabama. Both teams could overtake any of the top 4 teams, should they lose this weekend.

Georgia is currently No. 1 in the country, as they have been for most of the season. They have an impressive defense, ranking second in the country, and a good offense, behind quarterback Stetson Bennett. They play Louisiana State University in the Southeastern Conference Championship game. Georgia should win this game and maintain their spot as the top team in the country going into the playoffs.

Michigan is ranked No. 2 going into the Big 10 Championship this weekend with their matchup against Purdue University. Michigan lost their best offensive player and Heisman candidate, running back Blake Corum, who is someone they have relied on this season. Michigan will still be able to win this game, it will be a lot closer than most people will think, but they should be able to remain No. 2 in the country.

TCU has been the biggest surprise this season in college football, going 12-0 and being ranked No. 3 in the country. Going into their Big 12 Championship game this weekend against Kansas State University, TCU looks to beat the Wildcats for the second time this season. TCU won 38-28 in their first meeting with KSU in October. TCU will continue their impressive season by winning the Big 12 Championship and staying No. 3 in the country.

USC is the only team currently ranked in the top four who is not undefeated, their only loss this season coming against the University of Utah. The two teams will meet again this weekend in the PAC 12 Championship. If USC were to lose, the two teams behind them, Alabama and Ohio State, could have the opportunity to jump them in the standings. However, neither of these teams are playing in championship games this weekend, so USC should not be punished for playing an extra game. USC, win or lose, should maintain their position as the fourth and final team in the playoffs.
