DeKALB – NIU volleyball assistant coach Yohannehs “Joe” Davidson has coached his last game at Victor E. Court after he announced his departure from NIU in an Instagram post Saturday.

In the post, Davidson thanked his student-athletes, colleagues and others for their contributions during his tenure in DeKalb. Davidson ended his message by thanking his former coach before signing off as “the ghost of NIU.”

“It was fun,” Davidson wrote. “Time for another adventure.”

Davidson served under former head coach Ray Gooden for the past six seasons before NIU elected to make a switch at its head coaching position. Former Loyola University Chicago assistant coach Sondra Parys was hired to replace Gooden on Dec. 15, 2022, marking the beginning of a new coaching regime at NIU volleyball.

Parys will now be charged with filling the assistant coach vacancy before volleyball’s regular season kicks off in the fall.
