DeKALB – NIU sports kicks off a busy week, headlined by home events from hockey, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, women’s tennis and wrestling.

HOCKEY

Friday, Feb. 10: vs Waldorf University, 7 p.m.

Albert Lea, Minn. 

 

Saturday, Feb. 11: vs Waldorf University, 2 p.m.

NIU hockey hits the road for the second straight weekend to take on the Waldorf Warriors in the team’s last regular-season series. NIU dropped both previous games to Waldorf by final scores of 9-2 and 6-3, and will be looking to improve its playoff position. The series starts with a 7 p.m. puck drop on Friday. Then the teams wrap up their season series with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday. Both games will be streamed on the Waldorf Warriors streaming network. 

 

MEN’S BASKETBALL 

Tuesday, Feb. 7: vs. University of Ohio, 7 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 11: vs. Western Michigan University, 3 p.m.

DeKalb / Convocation Center

NIU men’s basketball faces off against the University of Ohio on Tuesday and Western Michigan University on Saturday. The Huskies sit in fifth place in the Mid-American Conference heading into the week. NIU will look to grab its second straight win on Tuesday versus the eighth-place Bobcats. The Huskies take on Western Michigan on Saturday, in search of their second win vs the 6-16 Broncos. Both games will be streamed on ESPN3/ESPN+.

TRACK AND FIELD

Friday, Feb. 10: GVSU Big Meet

Allendale, Mich. / Kelly Family Sports Center

NIU women’s track and field travels to Allendale, Mich. for the Big Meet showdown hosted by Grand Valley State University. The meet will take place on Friday, Feb. 10 at the Kelly Family Sports Center. This will be the Huskies’ second to last meet before the MAC Indoor Championships.

 

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Wednesday, Feb. 15: at Illinois State University, noon

Normal / Evergreen Racket Club

 

Friday, Feb. 17: vs Bradley, 3 p.m.

DeKalb / Chick Evans Field House

NIU women’s tennis team (3-4) heads to Normal, Il to face off against the Illinois State Redbirds (2-0) on Wednesday and will head back home on Friday to take on Bradley University in DeKalb. Coming off of a 2-5 loss against number 25 ranked Wisconsin, the Huskies were able to pull off a 5-2 victory against Marquette. The Huskies look to add two wins this upcoming week to get above .500. 

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Wednesday, Feb. 8: vs. University of Akron, 6 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 11: at Ohio University, noon CT

Athens, Ohio / Convocation Center

NIU women’s basketball (10-10) will face off against two Ohio schools on the road and at home. The first one is at home against the University of Akron Zips (14-6). The second game is in Athens, Ohio against the Ohio University Bobcats (4-16). The Huskies have been 25-11 against the Bobcats overall since 1989. They also previously beat the Zips on Jan. 14 this season and are looking to come home with another win. 

GYMNASTICS 

Sunday, Feb. 12: at Ball State University, 1 p.m.

Muncie, Ind. / Worthen Arena

NIU gymnastics will travel to Muncie, Ind. for a Mid-American Conference meet with Ball State on Feb. 12. Sunday’s meet will mark the Huskies’ fourth conference meet of the season. Ball State is currently 10-4 overall and 1-0 in conference.

 

WRESTLING

Friday, Feb. 10: vs. Northwestern University, 7 p.m.

DeKalb / Victor E. Court at the Convocation Center

The NIU wrestling team will battle the Northwestern University Wildcats. The match will take place Friday, Feb 10 at the convocation center. This is the Huskies’ first matchup against the Wildcats this season. The Huskies look to go 7-4 this season with a win in Friday’s matchup.
