Super Bowl halftime had Rihanna shining bright like a diamond
February 14, 2023
The Super Bowl halftime performance can either be a hit or a miss. Rihanna certainly did not miss this year.
After being absent from the music industry for six years, Rihanna came out in a fierce red outfit and showed the world that she can still give show stopping performances.
The most shocking moment of Rihanna’s performance was when she first came out and revealed to the world that she is pregnant with her second child. Though her pregnancy restricted her movement, Rihanna’s energy was felt through TV screens, computers and phones.
She opened the show with “Bitch Better Have My Money” while standing on a suspended, moving platform, dozens of feet off the ground. Rihanna wearing all red was a stark contrast to her dozens of dancers who were all wearing white. This contrast made Rihanna stand out and made for appealing camera shots as she was always in the center of everyone.
Rihanna has written over 50 songs, and she managed to condense her career into a 12-song tracklist for this performance, which consisted of hits such as “Work,” “Umbrella,” “Where Have You Been” and “Only Girl (In the World).”
She managed to keep the high-beat energy up throughout the whole 13-minute performance, garnering everyone on their feet by the end of it. Live shows are always nerve-wracking for performers and fans alike, but Rihanna strutted out onto her stage and kept her powerful vocals up for the entire performance.
The choreography between her dancers was elating, keeping the crowd energized and entranced. Because Rihanna couldn’t overexert herself due to her pregnancy, her dancers succeeded in doing what she couldn’t.
The most memorable part was the very end where Rihanna sang “Diamonds” as she soared over the crowd. The stadium was illuminated as crowd members looked like sparkling white dots, diamonds, in the background amongst Rihanna. A spotlight shined on her while she sang, making her look ethereal, as if she really was the only girl in the world.
Though her tracklist missed fan favorites such as “Love on the Brain,” “S&M,” “Please Don’t Stop The Music” and “Disturbia,” Rihanna delivered an electrifying performance that made Super Bowl 57 much more memorable.
