DeKALB – Fifth-year sprinter Kadeja Campbell finished first overall in three separate events at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships to earn her first Huskie of the Week honor.

Campbell’s performance helped NIU women’s track and field secure its second consecutive Huskie of the Week award after junior Scout Regular won last week.

Campbell won the 400-meter dash for the Huskies Saturday, posting a time of 56.23 seconds. Her first-place finish marked the second straight year that Campbell has won the 400-meter dash at the MAC Indoor Championships.

The St. Ann, Jamaica, native also finished first overall in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.07 seconds. Campbell individually amassed 20 points for the Huskies, leading the team to eighth-place.

The Huskies also won the 4×400 meter relay, an event in which Campbell ran the second of four legs. NIU posted a time of 3:50.19 in the event, a time that scored 10 cumulative points for the Huskies. The 4×400 meter relay win pushed the Huskies past the University at Buffalo Bulls for eighth place.

NIU women’s track and field has concluded its indoor season and will now focus on the outdoor season. The Huskies will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, for the Yellow Jacket Invite on March 17 and March 18.

Next week’s Huskie of the Week will be announced on March 6.

The Northern Star Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were chosen based on their performance in competitions taking place from Feb. 19 to Feb. 26.
