Fill in the Blank: TikTok is…

… Addicting
While on TikTok, it’s easy to fall into the trap of scrolling endlessly through videos. TikTok offers a range of content, depending on each user’s individual algorithm.
On my TikTok “For You” page, I usually have “get ready with me” videos, skincare videos, storytime videos and book recommendation videos.
Sometimes, without noticing, I can end up scrolling on TikTok for what I feel is 10 minutes; in reality, it has been an hour.
The storytimes on TikTok keep me entertained – the craziness of someone’s life or their reenactment of encounters – they usually leave me either dying of laughter or crying of sadness.
The “get ready with me” videos are like an adventure. Sometimes it can feel like I’m with the person recording the TikTok, which can be either really chaotic or really comforting. These videos are definitely my favorite.
Regardless of what kind of video lands on my “For You” page, it’s hard to resist the urge to scroll after every single one.
… Harmful
For starters, too much of anything is harmful.
Although TikTok is addictive, and a minute on there can turn into an hour, the craving can be harmful. Addiction to social media can cause you to become disconnected from the outside world, constantly seeking attention and depressed.
Being intrigued with the way other people live their lives can keep you in a trance, finding more peace when watching others than living your own life.
With likes being at the forefront of not only TikTok, but various other social media platforms, there’s a lot of things that people do for likes. TikTok’s “For You” page typically consists of videos that have at least a hundred likes, which can represent the value or importance of a video. It can become depressing fishing for likes, constantly seeing your worth as a certain amount of likes is harmful – you are worth more than likes.
Also, on TikTok you never know what might land on your “For You” page. Sometimes you might get a random video that doesn’t really align with your interests. These random videos can be harmful for young teens using the app, something inappropriate popping up is always a possibility.
