DeKALB – After his heroics in NIU baseball’s Easter Sunday win over Central Michigan University, junior infielder Aaron Harper nabbed his first Huskie of the Week honor.

With the Huskies trailing 5-4 and on the verge of being swept, Harper knocked a clutch two-RBI single to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive in senior outfielder Malik Peters and junior infielder Eric Erato to give NIU the win.

Harper’s walk-off was his second hit of Sunday’s game and helped the Huskies avoid a series sweep and snap a seven-game losing streak.

Harper also recorded two hits and an RBI in Saturday’s 17-7 loss to Central Michigan.

With four hits and three RBIs this week, Harper now has 31 hits and 24 RBIs this season to go along with a .279 batting average.

Harper’s selection is NIU baseball’s second straight Huskie of the Week honor, joining junior outfielder and catcher Colin Summerhill as the Huskies’ two honorees this season.

Next week’s Huskie of the Week will be announced on April 17.

The Northern Star Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were chosen based on their weekly performance in competitions taking place from April 3 to April 9.
