DeKALB – Quinyatta L. Hutchinson, an NIU senior, was recently charged with two crimes, one for aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one for grooming of a Huntley Middle School student.

After interviews with staff members and students at Huntley Middle School, the DeKalb Police Department conducted an investigation in which it found out that Hutchinson was engaging in sexual conduct with a minor on school property.

According to a press release from the DeKalb Police Department, they were notified on April 14 that there was an inappropriate encounter between Hutchinson and a student on the school premises.

Hutchinson was arrested for grooming charges but paid $500 of his then $5,000 bail and was released.

According to a press release, on April 18 the DeKalb Police Department had obtained a warrant for Hutchinson’s arrest for Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse. Later that day, Hutchinson was taken into custody and eventually held at the DeKalb County Jail.

Hutchinson’s bail for the Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse charge is set at $500,000, thus Hutchinson will need to pay $50,000 to be released.

Joe King, associate director for institutional communications at NIU, released a statement regarding Hutchison’s arrest on behalf of the university.

“The university has been made aware that an NIU student was arrested by DeKalb Police,” King said in a statement. “Based on information contained in the arrest record, the university has taken appropriate actions pending the outcome of the student conduct process.”

Hutchison’s next court date will occur at 8:45 a.m. Monday at the DeKalb County Courthouse.

If you have any information regarding any sexual abuse, reports and information can be filed at the NIU Police Department’s website, or by contacting the City of DeKalb Police Department.
