DeKALB – Hours after being announced as the MAC West Defensive Player of the Week, junior libero Crew Hoffmeier was named the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week after a dominant start to her NIU volleyball career.

Hoffmeier recorded a team-high 47 digs over NIU’s past three matches at the UNI Tournament. She leads the conference in digs per set and ranks 15th in the country with 5.19.

The Louisville, Kentucky native tallied 22 digs in the Huskies’ final game of the UNI Tournament against the University of Northern Iowa on Saturday.

Hoffmeier currently ranks eighth in the nation for total digs and first in the MAC with 249. The 5-foot-6 libero is in her first season with the Huskies after transferring from Virginia Commonwealth University.

This is NIU volleyball’s second Huskie of the Week honor of the 2023 season. Junior outside hitter Nikolette Nedic received the first recognition on Sept. 4.

The Northern Star sports sections’ Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were chosen based on their weekly performance in competitions taking place from Sept. 11 to Sept. 17.
