DeKALB – NIU women’s golf struggled in the Mary Fossum Invitational at Michigan State University, placing 12th out of 15 teams.
Senior Emily Romancew led the way for the Huskies, shooting three over par, 219, through three rounds. Romancew finished tied for 15th place and her best round came in Round 1 with a 71.
Senior Jasmine Ly also had a strong Round 1, shooting a 70. Ly couldn’t match her Round 1 success, finishing 10 over par, 226, through three rounds, good enough for a 37th place finish.
The Huskies shot 52 over par, 916, through three rounds. NIU started strong with a 297 in round one but took a step back in Round 2 (317) and Round 3 (302).
Purdue University shot a six under par, 858, through three rounds en route to a first-place finish. Purdue senior Ashley Kozlowski shot a two under par, 214, through three rounds and earned second place. Purdue was the only school to shoot under par.
Michigan State junior Katie Lu took first place at the Mary Fossum, posting a three under par, 213, through three rounds. Lu’s performance helped lead Michigan State to a second-place finish. Lu notched the best round of the tournament, shooting a 69 in her second round.
Despite finishing in second place, Michigan State shot the best round of the tournament, shooting a 281 in Round 2. Purdue was not far behind, shooting 284 in both Round 2 and Round 3.
