LNRS looks to expand

If students need a ride back to their rooms this weekend, the night bus service can help because it will be running two extra cars in hopes of expanding the service permanently.
The Student Association Mass Transit Board was in favor of doing a test run this weekend to look into expanding the Late Nite Ride Service.
“One of our goals this year was to expand the Late Nite Ride Service,” said Pat Sanchez, executive director for the SAMTB. He added he thinks Homecoming weekend is a good time to implement the trial run.
Sharat Shenoy, director of the LNRS, said the plan is to add a second car this Thursday evening and a third car for Friday evening. The cost would be $24.50 each night and $73.50 for the entire weekend—including personnel cost. The money comes from the SAMTB budget.
Shenoy said his only concern was the weather would be fair and potential riders would decide to walk. However, he said he thinks trying out the extra service is a good idea and with the Homecoming activities occurring there might be a jump in ridership.
If the trial run this weekend is successful, LNRS plans to permanently expand its services, he said.
“We will probably expand in November if the budget allows and we’ll add the additional car for the next month after November,” Shenoy said.
It’s better if we have more cars running because the service can reach more people, he said.
Sen. Christi Kret said the test run for Homecoming weekend is a wise move.
