Jazz In Progress, also referred to as JIP, is a nonprofit organization that uses the funds they earn from their performances and donates it to local community music programs and organizations.

Communities that have received funding from JIP in the past include DeKalb, Genoa-Kingston, Hinckley-Big Rock, Indian Creek, and Sycamore as well as St. Mary’s DeKalb and the DeKalb County Community Foundation.

Formed in 2012, JIP invites aspiring musicians to play jazz with them and further the organization’s goal of enhancing the appreciation and history of jazz as well as improve upon the group’s charity business.

JIP also has a melting pot of talented musicians from DeKalb County where local high school and college musicians are given the opportunity to sit in and play with the band as well as gain more experience with playing jazz music.

JIP has featured their music at several fundraising events in DeKalb, including at the Sycamore Farmers Market, Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital, Oak Crest Senior Proms, Sycamore Natural History Museum’s Rockin’ for the Reptiles, St. Mary’s Lancer Legacy Ball, Stage Coach Theatre and Artigras.

JIP has also cooperated with the Celebration Chorale at some non-profit and community events.

JIP’s next performance will be at 6 p.m. on Oct. 14  in the main lobby of the DeKalb Public Library.  Music will begin at 6:30 p.m. No tickets will need to be purchased for the concert and registration is also not required. More information can be found at the DeKalb Public Library website.
