This Friday, the Northern Illinois Food Pantry Mobile truck will be outside of the DeKalb County Health Department from 10 a.m. to 11:30 am at 2550 N. Annie Glidden Road.
The food truck provides nutritious and free food for those with low-income. Food will be distributed on a first-come, first serve basis while supplies last. The Northern Illinois Food Bank asks people to bring a bag or box in which they package food in.
Mobile pantries can serve 1,000 to 2,000 families and currently host two to four pop-ups weekly throughout the service area.
Those interested in volunteering can visit the Northern Illinois Mobile Market website to sign up. Volunteers must be eight or older to work the Food Pack and Sort shifts and 12 or older for any distribution shifts.
Volunteers can register online, email a volunteer coordinator, or call at 630-443-6910. Information on how the food bank provides assistance to each location is available on their website.
Other ways to help is by giving either a monthly or one-time monetary donation. People can sign up for advocacy alerts that notify them when there are volunteer actions available. Those interested can sign up for fundraising events or signature events as well.
The food bank has merchandise that people can shop for where a percentage of each purchase goes toward a donation to their cause. Further information for how to get involved or more resources is available on the food bank’s website.
