Lacrosse team wins twice over weekend
October 7, 1991
Living dangerously is rapidly becoming a way of life for the NIU lacrosse team.
In this past weekend’s matches, the Huskies (4-2) waited until the final quarter to rally against the Rockford men’s club and the University of Iowa.
In Saturday’s 11-9 victory over Rockford, aggressive midfield play and a solid team effort proved to be decisive, with eight different players scoring goals. Matt Miller, Dave Rask, Rich Fantozzi, and Mark McGrath led the charge for NIU, scoring eight of the 11 goals.
In Sunday’s game, NIU beat Iowa 9-8 in a true thriller that went down to the last minute of play.
Trailing by three goals, NIU’s Miller, Bill Wojtyla, and senior midfield captain Bill Polasky went on a five-goal scoring spree. Polasky’s two goals proved to be crucial as he tied the game with 2:21 remaining and then scored the winning goal with time running out.
