For the second consecutive season, fifth-year guard Chelby Koker has been named to the preseason All-MAC First Team for women’s basketball through the coaches’ poll.
Koker finished last season with 15.4 points per game and 3.4 assists per game, as well as ranking third in the MAC in three-point shooting percentage with 37.6 percent.
Koker also reached 20 points on eight different occasions during the 2022-23 season, including a 27-point performance in a win over the University of Akron on Feb. 8.
All these achievements earned Koker a place on the postseason All-MAC Second Team for 2022-23, while leading the Huskies to a sixth place in the conference.
Koker is entering her fourth season as a starter for the Huskies. She is currently NIU’s all-time leader in free throw percentage. With a repeat of last year’s stat line, Koker would move into the top five in team history for points, three-pointers made, free throws made, and assists.
NIU was voted to place fifth in the MAC this year by the coaches poll, which would be tied for the best finish in Koker’s time as a Huskie.
Koker and the Huskies will play an exhibition game against Ripon College at 6 p.m. Saturday before playing the season opener on Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. at Arkansas State University. The home opener for NIU women’s basketball will be played on Nov. 21 against Lindenwood at the Convocation Center.
