DeKALB – Nov. 20 is a day to honor those in the transgender community killed by violence.

This year, the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center and the Center for the Study of Women, Gender and Sexuality will be hosting a remembrance vigil as part of Transgender Day of Remembrance. The vigil will be at 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Holmes Student Center Sky Room.

Transgender Day of Remembrance is a yearly observance of transgender people whose lives were lost to anti-transgender violence in the past year. The day is to memorialize those lost and provide solidarity to those in the community affected by the loss.

The vigil will feature speakers talking about the impact of Transgender Day of Remembrance. Participants will also be allowed to speak, share their own stories and give support to one another.

The event will include scrolling slides of the names of people lost in 2023 to anti-transgender violence and their cause of death.

Food and beverages like apple cider, hot cocoa and cookies will be available.
