More athletic personnel get raises

On the heels of the news that NIU Athletic Director Gerald O’Dell received a $3,000 raise comes the discovery that seven other athletic department personnel have gotten salary increases.
Leading the way is women’s basketball head coach Jane Albright, whose yearly salary increased from $50,976 to $60,000. Albright has a 12-month contract with NIU.
Athletic Department personnel who work under nine-month contracts who received raises included baseball coach Joe McFarland, from $24,552 to $26,695 for nine months; women’s golf coach Pam Tyska, $18,000 to $25,002; softball coach Dee Abrahamson, $25,506 to $27,963.
Also receiving raises for their nine-month terms of employment were: athletic trainer Mike Braid, who was promoted to interim head athletic trainer, $15,867 to $22,500 and athletic trainer Stacy Michalski, $15,444 to $15,867.
Assistant football coach Gary Evans, who works under a six-month contract, had the value of his contact increased from 7,496 to $23,622 semiannually.
O’Dell, who was attending a national meeting of athletic directors in Tuscon, Ariz., could not be reached for comment.
O’Dell’s salary was increased by NIU to $84,600 for FY92, a $3,000 raise form his previous salary of $81,600 for FY91.
