The Northern Star’s daily newsletter TLDR is not being delivered to Outlook emails, but the management board will continue to produce it despite this setback.

Northern Star staff and readers began reporting on Nov. 7 that their Monday and Tuesday editions of TLDR had been removed from their Outlook inboxes entirely.

After investigating and communicating with NIU’s Division of Information Technology, we have diagnosed that our website, NorthernStar.info, has been flagged as malicious by Microsoft.

Until a concrete solution is found to this issue, we will continue publishing an alternative version of TLDR via our website and social media accounts.

The Northern Star only prints for special issues a few times a year. Our newsletter has essentially replaced our print product.

One way the Northern Star makes revenue is by selling ad space on our newsletter. When TLDR is not delivered, we can’t make profit from local businesses or campaigns.

The Northern Star receives limited funding from NIU and is not controlled by the university. We are not making revenue from any advertisements run in TLDR on days when the newsletter is not delivered as intended.

We will continue to follow this issue.
