Position to switch hands

By Linda Warchal

The position for Community Affairs adviser soon will be changing hands.

Dave Ivers, present community affairs adviser, said he does not have time for the position anymore, because as a graduate assistant his time is tied.

To be a good community affairs adviser, one must be willing to spend time doing the job and have an understanding of how group interaction works, Ivers said.

Until applicants have been interviewed and the position is filled, Ivers will remain in his position of community affairs adviser, Preston Came, SA president said.

Ivers took over the position in the summer on a temporary basis.

“I’m working to make sure the position is filled by next week,” Came said.

Came added he is looking for someone with knowledge of community affairs.

“I want someone with the potential to grow into the position,” Came said.

There are two applicants interested in the position waiting to be interviewed.

Bryan Tabiadon, a sophomore business major, said he would like to become more involved with the student body, and the community affairs position has a direct relationship with the students.

“I feel (community affairs adviser) is an important position which represents the students and the legal services at NIU,” Tabiadon said.

James Hill, a freshman with a major in business, said he has always been interested in student government.

“I want to help the public. I’m good with people and I consider myself outspoken,” Hill said.
