DeKALB – Senior Malia Watkins took home a first place finish for NIU women’s track and field at the Olivet Nazarene Invite.
The Huskies sent just five athletes to the ONU Invite. Watkins was the standout at the event, winning the 60-meter dash.
Watkins won her race with a time of 7.59 seconds, which was a new personal record in this event. Senior Skylynn Blue took second in this event, finishing just behind her teammate with a time of 7.78 seconds.
Freshman Olivia Dixon also earned herself a top-five placement with a fifth place finish in the 400-meter dash. Dixon’s final time for the event was 1:02.66.
“Tonight, we had a small group accomplish a lot,” said NIU Director of Track and Field Connie Teaberry via NIU Athletics. “Between bad weather and some injuries, we had a handful of athletes that needed to get reps in a couple events.”
The Huskies will return to action on Feb. 2 and Feb. 3 as they will travel to the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana for the Meyo Classic at the Loftus Sports Complex.
