The average cost per gallon of gas in the United States has risen 4.5 cents in the past week, bringing the national average to $3.07.

In Illinois, gas prices have risen 16 cents higher in January compared to December 2023, rising from $3.03 to $3.19 per gallon.

“We’ve seen the national average price of gasoline bounce back up after cold weather related refinery shutdowns pushed up the wholesale price of gasoline,” said head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy Patrick De Haan. “Recent GDP data and new attacks in the Red Sea have pushed oil prices to their highest level since November.”
