NIU softball kicks off its 2024 season with a westward trek to Iowa for the Doc Halverson UNI-Dome Classic. The Huskies will face five different opponents in a three-day span, including 2023 NCAA Tournament participants Omaha and Northern Iowa in back-to-back games Saturday.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Tuesday, Feb. 6: at Miami University, 6 p.m.

NIU men’s basketball (7-14, 1-8 MAC), earned its first conference win of the season Feb. 3 over Eastern Michigan University. 

The Huskies will attempt to work their way up the MAC standings with a trip to Ohio to take on the Miami University RedHawks (11-11, 5-5 MAC) Tuesday. The Huskies will then travel to Alabama to play the University of South Alabama Jaguars (10-12, 3-7 Sun Belt Conference) in the MAC vs. SBC Challenge. 

Halfway through the MAC season with nine conference games left to play, the Huskies sit in 11th in the MAC standings.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Wednesday, Feb. 7: vs. Ball State University, 6 p.m.

NIU women’s basketball (9-11, 3-6 MAC) looks to end its three-game losing streak after losing to Bowling Green State University 54-72. Senior forward Brooke Stonebraker led the team in scoring with 15 points.   

The Huskies will host back to back home games, the first against Ball State University (19-2, 9-0 MAC). The Huskies will then host Georgia Southern University (13-9, 3-7 SBC) for the second part of the MAC-SBC challenge. 

NIU lost the first game of the MAC-SBC challenge 62-75 against Arkansas State University in November. 

WRESTLING

Friday, Feb. 9: vs. Lock Haven University, 7 p.m.

NIU will host reigning MAC champion Lock Haven University for the annual “Beauty & the Beast Meet.” NIU ended its away schedule on the heroics of redshirt sophomore Jacobi Jackson, whose major decision victory won the dual for NIU.

TRACK AND FIELD

NIU women’s track and field team will split time this weekend at two different events: the Wisconsin Windy City Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the GVSU Big Meet hosted by Grand Valley State University. 

Freshman Arianna Calloway is fresh off her third win of the season in high jump and will look to continue her impressive first season with the Huskies. 

MEN’S TENNIS

NIU’s men’s tennis team (4-2) is playing at home after taking on Chicago State (0-4). The NIU men’s tennis team will next face Eastern Illinois University and then face Lewis University.

NIU women’s tennis (2-2) travels to Iowa after two wins at home against Marquette University (6-1) and Bellarmine University (4-3). The team faces the University of Northern Iowa before continuing against the University of Iowa. 

GYMNASTICS

After a shaky performance in its home opener Jan. 28, NIU gymnastics opens the weekend with a second-straight home meet, competing alongside NIU wrestling at the annual Beauty and the Beast meet. 

The Huskies will host MAC foe Western Michigan University (7-1, 2-0 MAC), the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (5-0, 3-0 WIAC) and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (4-4, 4-1 WIAC) for a quad meet to open the February competition schedule.

NIU will then hit the road to face Kent State (6-3) in a dual meet on Super Bowl Sunday.
