SA takes advantage of Fest

The Student Association played its part last week at NIU’s Friday Fest by familiarizing students about the organization and its goals.

SA Recycling passed out environmental information and signed up volunteers to get involved with the program.

“We’re trying to let people know recycling exists on campus,” said Rachel Vellenga, recycling director.

Vellenga said one of SA Recycling’s aims is to expand the program by getting three recycling bins for each dorm floor.

She said SA Recycling will use a $5,000 grant received last year from Energy and Natural Resources to expand the program.

Within the next few months Vellenga said SA Recycling would like to purchase a baler to compress cardboard for use on campus.

Recreation Adviser Jody English said the SA is trying to get students involved and familiarized with the organization before elections. She passed out general SA information for interested students.

“We’re trying to hype it up this year,” English said.
