DeKALB – Redshirt freshman Jacob Brya was named MAC West Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Brya is now the fourth Huskie wrestler to receive MAC weekly honors.
Brya notched his 10th win of the season after topping Southern Illinois University Edwardsville redshirt freshman Eric Almarinez 7-3 Friday.
Brya finished the 2024 regular season 10-3 overall and 7-1 in the MAC.
The Huskies’ late triumph clinched a perfect home record for the first time in 20 seasons and the MAC West division title.
The Huskies will compete at 11 a.m. CT March 8 in Kent, Ohio for Day 1 of the 2024 MAC Championships. Wrestling resumes at 10:30 a.m. CT March 9 with the consolation brackets to decide the third, fifth, seventh and ninth place winners.
