Love for Christ
April 21, 1991
I’m replying to Joseph Shapera’s letter in The Northern Star, which was responding to my April 12 letter.
I’m sorry you missed the point. Mr. Shapera I do not decry “the same theme … in the name of Christ” that “Nazism, Stalinism and the Islamic Holy War all use.”
Although non-Christian philosophies and religions may advocate extermination of their opponents, Christianity is bound by the command to love its enemies. But this love is to be directed by truth (the main point of my letter).
As a Christian I’m not in the business of exterminating my enemies—rather, I hope to win them over to follow Christ of their own free will.
