Two students design new logo for Co-op

Logos for the Cooperative Education Program will have a new look thanks to two NIU students.

Senior Scott Emond, an art major with an emphasis on drawing and senior J. Kiyoshi Joichi, a visual communications major each won $250 for the drawings they submitted for a logo contest sponsored by the Cooperative Education Program.

“Cooperative Education just got a new director and it’s going through some changes and (the new logo) is a part of the changes,” Edwards said.

The picture Emond submitted will be the official logo of the Cooperative Education Program. It will be used on brochures, said Lee Edwards, public relations intern for Cooperative Education.

Joichi’s drawing of a man running will be used for advertising campaigns and for T-shirts, she said.

Both contestants have won other logo contests. Emond won the contest for the Student Association and Jiochi won a contest sponsored by visual communications for a Chicago Ad company.

The contest was held because the old logo needed updating, Edwards said. The entries, submitted during February, were judged by NIU faculty two weeks ago and the winners were selected last week, Edwards said.

“We’re going to start using (the logos) now. They’re going to be used on all future brochures,” Edwards said.
