City finds another excuse
April 8, 1991
The DeKalb City Council has found another excuse to delay the tattoo parlor.
Added to the excuse that the parlor would take DeKalb into the pits of oblivion, the council has added health risks to the formula.
Instead of discussing the ordinance banning the parlor at Monday’s meeting, the issue was put on hold until the city could investigate all the possible health risks.
City Attorney Ron Matekaitis said “the fact the business is open is not a factor” in discussing the ordinance. That may be so for the city, but not for the parlor owner.
While the city searches for statistics from other towns on how they dealt with the tattoo parlors invading their communities, the parlor owner is losing money.
Every day the business is put on hold, the owner loses money he would be making from those who actually want tattoos.
City residents should realize that if the whole town is against it in the first place, the tattoo parlor will not have a market to make any money and it will have to close down.
Instead of playing games with a person’s welfare, the city should let the market decide whether his business is worth operating.
