Former soccer star of the mid to late 1990’s Debbie Huston was elected as the sixth member of NIU Athletics 2024 Hall of Fame class, the university announced on Thursday.
Huston is the sixth inductee of a pool that now consists of former quarterback Jordan Lynch, safety Jimmie Ward, gymnast Holly Reichard, volleyball star Kate McCullagh and volleyball head coach Pete Waite. Huston is the second Huskie to be chosen this week, following Ward who was admitted as a first-ballot selection on Thursday.
Huston started and played a program record of 84 career games, finishing with 24 goals, 20 assists and 68 points. All of which rank top-5 in school history.
Huston was a driving force behind NIU volleyball’s back-to-back MAC Tournament championship bids in 1997 and 1998. Huston contributed four goals and six assists to land on the First Team All-MAC Team and led NIU to a program best 14 wins in 1998.
“Debbie Huston had an outstanding career as a Huskie and was instrumental in the championship success of the women’s soccer program during her time at NIU,” said NIU Chairman of the Hall of Fame Committee Rodney Davis via NIU Athletics. “We are very excited to welcome her into this year’s Hall of Fame class.”
