Change tactics

Well, that time of year has returned where people wear jeans to show their support of “human rights” (or at least that’s the way the Gay/Lesbian Union advertised it.)
Why don’t you just come out and say what you mean? Since it’s Gay/Lesbian Awareness Week you should advertise: “Wear jeans to support gay rights.”
Human rights and gay rights are not the same thing! Just because I support basic human rights doesn’t mean I must support your organization.
Besides, it’s all a big joke. Half of the people on campus don’t even know about “Jeans Day” until after it’s over. That kind of arrangement only misrepresents the number of supporters you have.
To see the real size of your support group, next semester institute a pink armband day (in other words: pick something that people don’t normally wear.)
Then you will be able to see how many (or few) supporters you actually have.
As for your so-called awareness week, do you actually think that there is anyone on campus who doesn’t know what homosexuality is? Give me a break!
Like so many others, I’m sick of the GLU cramming their beliefs down my throat and telling me I should support something that I don’t believe in.
I don’t tell you GLU members that you should support heterosexuality, so don’t tell me what I should support!
