Taking the taco

Well Northern Star, you’ve finally done it. I have seen some typing mistakes in my life, but you really take the taco.

First, the articles about the new statue for the King Memorial Commons; what is it called, “Balance of Equity” or “Balance of Equality”? I am referring to the two articles that appeared in the newspaper on April 5.

The word equality seems to make better sense. After all, we are talking about people and being equal, not real estate and economics.

Before you allow a story to hit the paper, please make sure that the articles do not contradict themselves.

The next article I am about to talk about is not your’s or anybody’s fault, but I was reading the Star on March 27, about the American flag being torn down in the commons 21 years ago.

This is not a quote, but Mr. Ekstrom mentions that the flag was not replaced until March 25. I came to NIU in the fall of 1986 and I do remember the flag flying in the commons in 1986 and part of 1987 before they started the reconstruction of the Holmes Student Center tower.

In fact I knew quite a few red coats that worked in the student center in 1986 and 1987 and one of the responsibilities was raising and lowering the flag everyday.

This is no big deal, but it just struck me as funny that no one who has worked in the student center in that time frame would remember that.
