DeKALB – After posting a record-setting performance in his first win as a starter, redshirt junior quarterback Ethan Hampton has earned his first-career Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor, the league office announced Monday.
Hampton was a near-perfect 18-of-20 passing for a career-high 328 yards and five touchdowns as the Huskies routed Western Illinois University 54-15 on Saturday. The Aurora Christian Schools product finished with a passer efficiency rating of 310.3, surpassing the previous record of 261.3 held by College Football Hall of Famer George Bork since 1963.
As of Monday, Hampton is third in the country in passing efficiency, second in completion percentage (90%) and tied for first in passing touchdowns in the NCAA Statistics. His five TDs – each thrown to a different receiver – are tied for the sixth-most in school history and are the most by a Huskie QB since Chandler Harnish threw for six against the University of Toledo on Nov. 1, 2011.
Hampton is also the first NIU quarterback to record a 300-yard passing performance since his predecessor, Rocky Lombardi, threw for a school-record 532 yards against Kent State University on Nov. 3, 2021.
