When the field includes many of the best teams and top individuals from the Midwest, fourth place can be pretty impressive.
At least coach Pam Tyska was satisfied with that finish for both her NIU women’s golf team and for Huskies’ standout Nicole Jeray with respect to Saturday and Sunday’s Indiana University Invitational.
Host IU claimed the team trophy with a 969 tally for 54 holes while Iowa was second at 969 and Michigan State finished at 973 to NIU’s 975.
NIU was four strokes ahead of Iowa State’s 979 to round out the top five in the 17-school field.
Jeray took fourth place, touring the 6,037-yard, par-74 IU Golf course with rounds of 82, 76, and 76 for a 234. NIU’s Sharon Humphrey followed her with a 246 while Kim Hodge posted a 248. Karen Bromberg added a 249 while Mishelle Reed’s 258 rounded out the Huskies’ contingent.
“This was a very good effort because this is the type of golf course that can really eat up a good team,” NIU coach Pam Tyska said.
