Glad to get out
April 15, 1991
As graduation grows closer and closer, I look forward to it more and more.
Not because I can’t wait to start the rest of my life, but because I can’t wait to get away from this school.
Many things about this school upset me these days, but the one item that sticks out most in my mind is the pay raise that just went into effect for student workers on campus.
At the end of this semester I will have worked at the map library for three years. After working here for only one semester I was promoted to student manager and have remained in that position ever since.
I feel that I did a lot for the library and its patrons and to think that if I wasn’t graduating I would be making only a few cents more than new employees makes me sick.
I earned my position and so has the student manager that will follow me. What incentives are left for students? It’s bad enough that most students only get the five cents guaranteed raise a semester.
What is the school trying to do? Get rid of all of their responsible employees: I wish you luck.
To any employee that holds a higher position: don’t worry, the school won’t save that much money if they fired you and hired someone else. They only make a few cents less than you.
