NIU women’s golf kicked off its fall season at the Redbird Invitational, tying for fifth place out of 15 teams.
The Huskies finished the invitational in a tie with the University of South Dakota, as both teams’ final scores were 37 over par.
NIU finished two strokes behind Bradley University in the final standings, as they shot 35 over par for the invitational.
NIU’s second round score of even par was the fourth best round of any team at the tournament.
Illinois State University was the only school to finish with a lower round than NIU, as they had a score of six under par in round one, seven under par in round two and two under par in round three.
Freshman Alexa Ouellet was the top finisher for the Huskies in the invitational, tying for 14th place with four other athletes. Ouellet shot seven over par (223) in her first collegiate event, with her best round score being two under par.
Ouellet’s second round score of two under par was tied for the third best round of any athlete at the invitational.
Only Illinois State redshirt junior Morgan Jones’ second round score of five under par and Illinois State graduate student Jinyoung Yun’s first round score of three under par were better.
Senior Caroline Kent recorded the next-best score for a Huskie golfer, shooting nine over par (225) and tying for 20th place. Kent’s best round of the event came in the second round, where she shot one under par.
Freshman Dakota Tallent also finished tied for 20th place, shooting nine over par (225) in her collegiate debut.
Graduate student Emma Thorman finished tied for 33rd place with two other athletes, Bradley’s senior Maria Perakis and Drake University’s junior Amber Henson.
Thorman finished her invitational with a final score of 13 over par (229).
Senior Jóhanna Lúðvíksdóttir rounded out the NIU lineup, finishing tied for 49th place and shooting 19 over par (235).
The Huskies’ next invitational will take place on Sept. 22 and 23 and will be hosted by Michigan State University at the Forest Akers West golf course in East Lansing, Michigan.
