NIU women’s soccer junior forward Kelsi McLaughlin has been named Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
McLaughlin found the back of the net with eight seconds remaining in the first half of the Huskies match against Illinois State University on Thursday. That goal ended up being the game winner in NIU’s 1-0 victory.
On Sunday, McLaughlin scored in the 5th minute against Valparaiso University to put the Huskies up early in the 2-1 victory.
McLaughlin has 4 goals and 2 assists on the season, playing in all eight matches in her first season as a Huskie, after transferring from Illinois State.
“We are very excited for Kelsi (McLaughlin),” NIU head coach Michael O’Neill said via NIU Athletics. “She was very good on both sides of the ball this past week. On Sunday specifically they couldn’t really handle her in 1v1. Also, I thought defensively she was so good in pressing and winning the ball back high up the field. She is a very deserving winner, and we look forward to seeing her continue to grow here at NIU.”
NIU women’s soccer opens MAC play at 6 p.m. CT Thursday against Miami University at Bobby Kramig Field in Oxford, Ohio. ChatterBox Sports will have a live stream and SideArm Stats will be updating live stats.
