Second City to perform
April 1, 1991
For students with a taste for comedy, Chicago’s Second City touring company will be at NIU this Wednesday.
The program is sponsored by NIU’s Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity.
“The house got involved a few years ago. It’s been going on for several years now,” said Phil Traylor, assistant treasurer for Phi Kappa Sigma.
“They (Second City) must enjoy coming out. They keep coming back,” Traylor said.
“It goes well every year. I’m expecting it to go well this year too,” said Dave Saboe, philanthropy/service chairman.
The show is a benefit for the Shirley W. Nelson Campus Child Care and NIU’s Special Physical Education Clinic, which is operated by the physical education department.
“We’ve been looking for ways to help the community and these groups deserve our support,” Saboe said.
Saboe said the other fraternity members enjoy being involved and doing their part.
“It’s a good philanthropy. Our house likes to keep the benefits local,” Traylor said. “It’s more involved than selling candy.”
Traylor also said it is easier to motivate people with this program. “It almost motivates itself into working,” he said.
“You do a dual purpose. We’re bringing people a bargain and it’s a good show,” he said.
Traylor added that one of a greek organization’s main purposes is to contribute to the community.
Tickets will be on sale for $4 beginning today from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Wirtz, Cole and DuSable halls and in the Pow Wow. If any are left, they will be sold at the door.
