Weather hampers women’s golf team

Initially, the NIU women’s golf team “weathered” the rain. Ultimately, the rain “whithered” the Huskies, according to NIU coach Pam Tyska.

As a result, NIU dropped from a tie for fifth to a seventh-place finish following Saturday and Sunday’s Lady Buckeye Invitational.

NIU posted a 670 tally based on rounds of 326 and 344 to finish three strokes behind Kansas State.

“Quite honestly, we spent too much time worrying about the weather rather than our golf. The rain was really heavy during our warm-up and no one was happy to play in rain for a second straight day,” Tyska explained.

Mishelle Reed was NIU’s leader with a 164 while Nicole Jeray and Kim Hodge followed with scorecards of 166 and 167, respectively. Sharon Humphery tallied a 174 while Cindi Watson completed the Huskie pack with a 178.
