Mark Robinson, the Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina, is facing severe controversy for online comments he made from 2010 through 2012.
Comments were traced back to Robinson through the username “minisoldr,” which was used repeatedly across various platforms, according to CNN.
Among Robinson’s comments were a reference to himself as a “black NAZI!,” various sexual comments about pornography, “peeping” in women’s restrooms and multiple offensive slurs.
Robinson has denied all allegations and continues his campaign fully endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
MARK ROBINSON CANNOT BE EXCUSED
By: Santiago Montañez Bertoletti, Opinion Columnist
Mark Robinson has been trending in recent days for the many horrendous comments from his past. Comments that were found on a pornography site called Nude Africa are terribly disturbing.
Among the most remarkable of the comments was Robinson’s claim to be a Black Nazi.
While many of these comments are quite old, the content is extremely worrying since there were problematic comments he made on different controversial topics, including religion, race and gender.
A person who demonstrates such aggressive behavior toward specific communities in public, even on social media, is not fit for any form of leadership – political or otherwise.
The fact that, despite his commentary, he has political support from some Republicans is disturbing and says much about the flaws in the American political system.
It’s astounding that members of the same political party support each other more for not losing political profit than for defending moral principles. Among those who have defended Robinson are both Trump and J.D Vance.
Robinson is strongly denying accusations of these comments despite evidence connecting his posts and his private life.
It is critical no person who has displayed behaviors like Robinson’s – whether recently or not – cannot maintain a spot in political leadership.
MARK ROBINSON IS NOT A BAD POLITICIAN
By: Will Thiel, Opinion Columnist
“Black Nazi” is the last thing North Carolinians – or Americans – expected to read about when tuning into the North Carolina governor race.
But it’s something that has been brought up since Mark Robinson’s opponents have chosen to focus on past mistakes, weaponizing them to derail his campaign.
This tactic leads to politics that only incite fear and political violence.
Robinson is not a bad person; he is simply a victim of bad politics.
Political disturbance and character-based political tactics have reigned this election year, and the allegations against Robinson are a prime example of this ruthless strategy.
Robinson has become a prominent figure in North Carolina politics. As a native to North Carolina and a U.S. Army veteran, his story resonates with many who see him as a symbol of perseverance and resilience.
For instance, rhetoric against the Donald Trump campaign deem him a “threat against democracy.”
Such incitements may have convinced the attempted assassins of Trump the statements were true, leading them to believe the only solution was to make an attempt on his life.
Such allegations, while serious, are being used as political tools rather than genuine concerns for justice or morality.
The current climate of political mudslinging and sensational headlines distracts from what truly matters: the future of North Carolina and the integrity of its leaders.
In the end, the voters of North Carolina must decide whether they will be swayed by sensational headlines or look deeper into the character and policies of Mark Robinson.
