Freshman Dakota Tallent led NIU women’s golf to an 11th-place finish at the Diane Thomason Invitational.
Tallent had her highest finish of the season and was the top Huskie finisher on the team’s trip to Iowa City, Iowa.
The freshman finished tied for 16th place with the University of Iowa sophomores Ximena Benites and Maura Peters, with a score of 14 over par (230).
The Huskies as a team finished in 11th place in the field of 15 teams, with a score of 78 over par (942). NIU finished one stroke behind Bowling Green State University and finished 13 strokes ahead of Southern Illinois University.
Freshman Alexa Ouellet had the next best individual finish for the Huskies, finishing tied for 37th place with four other athletes. Ouellet’s final score for the invitational was 20 over par (236).
Graduate student Emma Thorman finished tied for 44th place with a score of 22 over par (238). Thorman finished tied with Drake University junior Rylee Heryford and senior Julie Huggins.
Senior Caroline Kent finished tied for 54th place in the invitational with Missouri State University freshman Siena Minor. Kent finished with a score of 25 over par (241).
Freshman Mia Raines was the last Huskie on the individual leaderboard, finishing tied for 74th place with the University of Alabama at Birmingham sophomore Ceci Lococo and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley sophomore Camila Herrera.
Raines’ final score for the invitational was 33 over par (249).
“We have to learn from this week and rebound for next week. We were battling against wind both days. The team continued to fight against elements and I’m proud of the effort,” said NIU head coach Kim Kester via NIU Athletics.
The Huskies next invitational will take place on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 at the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah. The invitational will be hosted by the University of Illinois at the Medinah Country Club.
