Special parking permits offered
March 1, 1991
Those who want to obtain special parking privileges can do so either through Campus Parking Services or through the Parking Appeals Committee.
Campus Parking can sometimes issue special parking stickers if the person requesting the sticker has a medical reason for it.
“If verification comes from University Health Services, a special sticker can sometimes be given out, depending on the circumstances,” said Helen Nodurft, manager of the parking service.
The appeals committee also reviews requests for special parking privileges.
Campus Parking is a part of NIU’s Business and Operations department and is responsible for issuing parking stickers to students and faculty.
The different permits are designated by a color code. Only one color-designated permit is allowed per person.
All vehicles parked on university property must display a current NIU parking permit. Each parking sticker has a designated lot for the vehicle with that sticker.
For example, a brown sticker allows a person to park in any brown parking lot, with the exception of the lot reserved for nursing students.
The brown sticker also allows a person to park in certain blue lots after 4 p.m. and on weekends.
The appeals committee is also a part of Business and Operations and reports to its vice president.
