Murder, death, witches, treachery and a descent into madness create the perfect recipe for a hauntingly good show, just in time for Halloween.
These themes are at the heart of the School of Theatre and Dance’s upcoming performance of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth,” opening at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the O’Connell Theatre in the Stevens Building.
The play, directed by Peter Andersen, centers around the tragic life of Macbeth, a Scottish general and Thane, who serves under the current king of Scotland.
After receiving a prophecy from three witches that he will become king of Scotland, Macbeth and his wife go down a dark path full of political ambition, murder and deadly consequences.
Tickets must be purchased online prior to the show. Tickets are free for NIU students, $20 for the general public, $18 for both NIU staff and seniors 65 and up, and $12 for non-NIU students.
After the Saturday show, a 20 to 30 minute aftershow, featuring discussion and audience questions, will be held with the cast and crew.
