NIU men’s soccer (2-11, 0-5 MVC) dropped its sixth straight match, losing 2-1 against the University of Evansville Purple Aces (7-5-2, 3-2 MVC).
The Purple Aces found the back of the net in the 23rd minute, when redshirt freshman midfielder Jacopo Fedrizzi sent the ball into the upper right of the net.
The score remained locked 1-0 until the final 10 minutes of the match.
NIU sophomore forward Sam Divis found the equalizer for the Huskies in the 82nd minute, sending the ball past Purple Aces freshman goalkeeper Michal Mroz.
Minutes later, in the 85th minute, Purple Aces sophomore winger Audun Engen Vik slipped the ball past NIU sophomore goalkeeper Atahan Arslan to retake the lead.
In the second half, NIU’s offense found 9 shots, six of which were on goal. Mroz recorded 6 of his 7 saves in the second half of the match. Arslan saved three shots from the Purple Aces, while allowing two goals.
Senior forward Zachariah Thomas and freshman midfielder Martin Montoya led the Huskies with 2 shots each, all of which were on goal.
NIU looks to get back in the win column at 6:30 p.m. Friday against Belmont University at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville, Tennessee. StatBroadcast will be updating live stats and the match will be live streamed on ESPN+.
