During his executive branch report, Treasurer Ethan Pesavento updated senators on what he’s been working on.
“Top priority for me right now is the annual funding presentation. So I’m working on, kind of like, full presentation about benefits, the process, how to go through, where to apply, everything like that, pretty much every single student organization would need to know,” Pesavento said. “In addition to that, I want to host annual funding workshops. So I plan to at least host three where I’m going to send out a mass email to all presidents and some treasurers of every organization and invite them, and then I’m just going to go through and present the annual funding presentation.”
Pesavento also said he hopes to have the annual funding submission portal open by December so student organizations can begin submitting their annual funding request for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Bill to update procedures for becoming a student organization
The Student Government Association voted on Bill SB56004, which would update the procedures for recognizing new student organizations.
Deputy Speaker Nathan Gonzalez spoke about what the bill entails.
He said that the bill would change full organization approval under the Organizational Oversight Committee responsibilities, instead of going before the senate, which could quicken the speed that organizations are approved.
The bill passed in a vote of 11-0-0.
Bill to confirm a director of public affairs
In a vote of 11-0-1 SGA passed Bill SR56010 to confirm Ivory Rucker as the director of Public Affairs.
Rucker, then-senator of SGA, explained her goals and what she wants to achieve in her new position.
“I am passionate about making our campus a space where every student feels valued and connected with your support. I will work tirelessly to represent our interests and make our community even more vibrant together,” Rucker said. “We can shape a future where every voice is heard and every story matters. If elected, I will have to formally resign from the Senate, but I hope you don’t see this as a loss, but only in addition to the executive branch that understands the big job of the Senate, who can advocate for more for each senator.”
SGA senate meetings are open to the public and held at 4 p.m. Fridays, with locations posted in the senate’s agendas. SGA minutes and intent-to-speak forms are available on Huskie Hub.
