Attendees dressed on theme or in other halloween costumes for the Irrational Masters shadow cast performance of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” tells the story of a couple stranded on a stormy night. Brad and Janet are stuck outside with a flat tire and discover the creepy mansion of Dr. Frank N. Furter. The further into the mansion, the wackier the characters are that they meet.
The shadow cast did an excellent performance, especially when it came to the songs. Their timing was great and so was their ability to hype up the audience.
Friday night at the Egyptian Theatre, located at 135 N. Second St., the show began with a costume contest where the host went around the audience to see who dressed the best.
The two winning participants from the costume contest won prizes.
During the movie, the crowd heavily interacted with cast members and reacted to the movie as well.
In unison, they would clap during songs like “Time Warp” or yell at the criminologist’s cleft chin every time he came on screen. They would also say “Bullwinkle” after Dr. Frank N. Furter would call on Rocky.
“I like being able to interact with the movie and kind of be part of the audience too,” said Blake Rooker, a Wasco resident. “The bantering is the best part.”
Attendees were also only allowed to use props purchased from the Egyptian Theatre.
Props like mini water guns were used when it was raining in the movie, and some people held little newspapers over their heads while Brad and Janet did the same in the rain.
The crowd got very lively during the “Time Warp” and many danced along with the movie and cast members. There was also additional excitement when Dr. Frank N. Furter first came on the screen.
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” had a great turnout. There were over 500 people at the event, so many they needed to open the balcony, the host said.
“Being in a room full of people who are weird and love the same weird stuff you do, and are so into it, they can all say the lines, all do the same stuff,” said Ian Hansel, a St. Charles resident. “You know what I mean? So great for people who are crazy like me.”
