DeKALB – During a speaker report at the Student Government Association meeting Friday, Speaker Manny Corpuz announced Senator Cooper Vaske was dismissed from SGA.
“Over the past week, I’ve been able to update interview Senate attendance. In correlation with Senate attendance, Senator Vaske was dismissed from Senate due to accumulating three unexcused absences from committee meetings,” Corpuz said.
Vaske only served as senator since the beginning of the fall 2024 semester.
A resolution to finalize the stipend amount for the next semester’s session
In a vote of 10-0-3, SGA passed resolution SR56014, which confirmed that senators will receive a stipend amount of $250 for the spring 2025 semester.
Corpuz provided more information about the resolution.
“The $250, this was decided by speaker, our speaker, Cole Hensley, from last year’s session. Moving forward, we, I, will be deciding for spring semester and the amount that was agreed upon was $250,” Corpuz said. “I would also like to add you will only receive the $250 for the amount of work that you put into SGA.”
Good of the Order Report.
During the Good of the Order, Deputy Speaker Nathan Gonzalez spoke about the Mission AI chatbot made to help students.
“If you were unaware, on Wednesday of this week, the Provost’s Office released Mission, which is an AI chatbot that is designed to help students with asking questions related to any sort of services that NIU has to offer,” Gonzalez said. This can range from academics to even counseling help if requested and needed by the student. This is managed by the Provost’s Office, and only they can see whatever you put into the chat boxes.”
Resolution to confirm Spring 2025 board of Elections
While it was on the agenda for Friday’s meeting, SGA tabled discussions on resolution SR56015, which would confirm the Spring 2025 Board of Elections. This discussion was tabled until the SGA’s Friday meeting.
“[The] Board of Elections is decided by senators. We will have five members, of which the last two are. We will have seven members technically, of which only five are technically part of Board of Elections,” Corpuz said. “The other two will be serving as alternates if you are graduating in the spring, or are not planning on returning to SGA in the fall. This is just a way that you guys can contribute one last time to SGA, and this will count as your third committee as well.”
SGA senate meetings are open to the public and held at 4 p.m. Fridays, with locations posted in the senate’s agendas. SGA minutes and intent-to-speak forms are available on Huskie Hub.
