The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers return to take on evil once again to fight for justice once more.
On Oct. 29, a trailer for the upcoming game, “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind,” revealed another look at the new “beat-em-up” style game as well as confirmation of what systems the game will be on and a set release date.
The new trailer revealed that the game will be released Dec. 10 and will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
A beat-em-up style game, also referred to as a brawler game, is any type of retro sprite-based game where the player fights through various enemies and bosses in a level using armed or unarmed combat.
Beat-em-up games tend to be mostly 2D in nature, moving from left to right or vice versa, but they can have some 3D elements. They also sport fairly simple controls for a more enjoyable experience.
“Rita’s Rewind” is based off of the original “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” series released in the 1990s and has several references to the original series besides the villains and rangers themselves.
During the trailer, there is a moment where the black ranger saves the pink ranger from one of the villains. After the camera pans to him, the black ranger actually does the wave dance that Zack, the black ranger from the original series, does in the series theme song.
Besides Rita, the antagonist of the original series, Tommy Oliver, the legendary green ranger and the first to be evil or mind controlled, will also make an appearance in the game although it is unknown whether he will be a playable character.
Of course, no “Power Rangers” game would be complete without their special moves and Megazords.
Along with the standard gameplay of a beat-em-up game, players will be able to unleash special moves unique to each ranger and pilot the five zords, combining them together to make the powerful and iconic Megazord to fight the enlarged villains.
The Power Rangers have always been unique and popular heroes so being able to use the original team in a beat-em-up style game will be an experience worth waiting for.
