SA spring fever is too late

Every year at NIU, at least one small group of people gets spring fever—but it’s not the kind of disease that makes one count the days until summer.

It’s an ailment that hits selected members of the Student Association who decide too late in the year that their group needs a change. Generally, these few try to just axe the president—just ask Paula Radtke and Huda Scheidelman.

This year, one former SA type wants to axe the whole thing.

Sophomore Drew Krenke, who left the senate in January, wants his fellow students to dissolve the organization unless the senate smells the burning coffee of ineffectiveness.

Krenke says he doesn’t necessarily want to see the SA become a memory but just wants to see it stop botching things up. His message rings especially clear this week.

The SA had planned its executive elections for Tuesday and Wednesday. Unfortunately, the election is too early for proper campaigning and too close to Spring Break for anyone to realize the elections are so soon.

Usually though, all SA elections are held Wednesday and Thursday. That’s what Elections Commissioner Alfred Tatum thought, but for one reason or another didn’t realize until too late.

Sunday night, the senate had to vote when this week’s elections would be. If this is one of the things Krenke wants to get rid of, more power to him.
