Bus stop ludicrous proposal
March 1, 1991
The stupid little squabble inside the Student Association Mass Transit Board is getting more than tiring.
Board member Pete Donnelly has been trying to get another bus stop at the corner of Hillcrest and Blackhawk streets.
The problem is that Donnelly’s efforts are fruitful and damaging at the same time.
Donnelly should be heralded for his input. Even if he is a board member and his input becomes a responsibility, students should follow his lead. The student point of view will never be heard if students continue to gripe after decisions are made and not play an active role in the discussion.
The damaging part comes in where Donnelly’s proposition for a bus stop is ludicrous and Donnelly is crying because the board won’t implement his idea.
The board’s action is correct in not putting another stop at the corner.
There is a bus stop a half a block away from where Donnelly wants to put another stop. The added stop where Donnelly wants it is unnecessary.
Opposing board members also cite added time to the route and safety hazards as reasons against the additional stop. Although these considerations are warranted, they could be easily taken care of if the stop legitimately were necessary.
Donnelly’s input is great and hopefully will push others to voice their concerns. However, Donnelly is wrong in his quest for a bus stop.
