The sunset lighting majestically touched the distressed dancer through the depth of the empty painting frame set.
The three shows performed by the School of Theatre and Dance students pulled on the audience’s heart strings in the presence of humanity, reality and togetherness.
The first selection – music composed by Ludwig Minkus, “Paquita,” was an elegant ballet performance.
The blue, purple, pink and red backgrounds drew a perspective to see the dancers glow in the stage light. The synchronization of the dancers was presented in an exquisite fashion and the dedication of the performance as a work of art was an incredible display.
The second selection, “Te Sigo Queriendo” – music by William Basinski, Los Zafiros and Anton Feist – featured unique and euphoric pieces of expression. The atmosphere of the piece encapsulated the feeling of loss.
“Te Sigo Queriendo,” which means “I still love you,” tells a story of loss as the actors portrayed the feelings of closure through movement, keeping the audience in awe.
Last, the third show, “It’s all So Different Now, Journey through Life,” was essential to the end of the concert. The rhythms of song and dance were communicated in the aura of the dancers dressed in flowing mood tones. Many dancers wore different shades of gray and danced in a way that was unique to the eye and moving to the heart.
The cast members throwing their hands up and reaching for the sky was an amazing pivotal piece of the show. This scene of unity and pain, expressing the emotion of all the dancers present on stage was an incredible and significant mark in the concert- people need people.
“It is a different experience, new to me and exciting to be a part of,” junior art and dance major and cast member Chamayze Hall said.
