Students, services at fault
March 4, 1991
Some residence hall residents have found an effective way to get their message heard when other doors are apparently closed.
About 30 to 35 residents of floor 6-B in Stevenson Towers South protested what they felt were unfair Student Housing Services practices by sleeping in the hallway Thursday night.
There has been a lot of damage on the floor, but the men claim all the wrong people are getting punished. After failing to get their side of the story heard in other forums, they decided to protest publicly.
The men should be commended for organizing their protest in a safe manner.
But the men are not completely innocent in all of this either. After all, if Bob Fugil and Terry Kern did not tape the elevator doors shut, somebody else did. Fugil and Kern were kicked off the floor.
If these two men and others are innocent, then why don’t the rest of them start doing some pinpointing of their own and have disciplinary action taken against the right people.
Better yet, maybe some of the pranksters should show some backbone and confess instead of letting the entire floor take the brunt of the punishment.
The housing services has a role in this as well, however. This latest incident should come as a warning that maybe housing is getting the wrong people.
But the students should not forget either that the housing services would not have to do anything if someone wasn’t damaging the floor.
